ABANDONED by Cody McFadyen goes a bit further, dragging you kicking and screaming to the chasm and then giving you a hearty two-handed shove. While this is only McFadyen’s fourth novel, his writing is possessed with a sureness and confidence that some veteran authors would kill for. This talent is beautifully displayed in ABANDONED.       The heroine becomes a servant girl that no one really understands until the painter discovers she’s special. Tons of people loved this book. I read for a while, but didn’t love it enough to keep going. I should mention here that I also abandoned The Secret Life of Bees several years ago, another book that seemingly everyone loved. As the legend goes, a group of Quakers who, on a stormy night in , nearly plunged into the Batsto river but were saved by the spectral creature. A white stag sculpture sits before a grave in the Reeves Town Cemetery, the only remains of a town that was destroyed by a fire.
